Turning & Drillings

Crankshafts arrive in an “as forged” condition and the initial process involves rough turning and milling using specialized CNC turning and milling machining centres

Deep hole oilway drilling is carried out using modern automatic CNC plant capable of precise drilling of hardened steel crankshafts

Induction Hardening

All crankshafts undergo fully automatic fillet induction hardening of pins, journals and radii to meet varying customer specifications

Crankshaft Grinding

A range of manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic cylindrical grinding machines are utilized to grind pins and shafts to a tolerance of +/- 8 microns on diameters

Crankshafts are balanced post grinding to a tolerance of +/- 50gcm

Crankshaft Polishing

The final stage of the process is to carry out highly accurate final polishing to achieve a surface finish within 0.2Ra

Component Testing

A full range of tests are carried out to ensure product conformity. These include; dimensional checks, surface finish checks and metallurgical and fatigue testing

Laser Etching / QR Codes

Machined products can be individually identified by QR codes using the new fully automatic laser etching machine
